Cable Town!
A few years back on my way through Kansas! I happen upon this small out of the way town. It was a place that you would normally not come across by following the main roots of the high way. Alternatively, even be mentioned on any local map! It was what many passers by call a short root to the big city. On this particular road that lead to this small out of the way two street place of a town was a huge amount of field land and Pasture as Fare as the eye could see. In the deep distance of this land were large rock formations that filled the horizon. I had arrived at this particular spot. Quit by accident! It seams the truck that I had hitched a ride on was going in the opposite direction than I wanted to go.
So I Banged on the roof of the cab and told the women who had picked me up about forty miles down the road that I would be getting off there. She gave me a bag of apples and wished me well then drove off down the dirt road toward the main high way that would take her back to the main city. As the truck left it beeped, its horn and the driver reached out the window and gave me a friendly wave good by. I took that moment to move to the side of the road and sat down next to an old Road sign that had the words Cable town 3 miles left on it. I pulled out a sandwich and a coke from my pack and wiped one of the apples off the truck driver gave me on my shirt to a nice shine before taking a huge bite. There was a cool breeze blowing even though the air was dry and dusty it was my fifth week on the road traveling across country. I was not sure what I was doing way out there. However, it felt right it was just something that needed to done.
I really had no plan as to ware I was going or why I was going. Nevertheless, I felt if I did not take this trip I would never have the chance to hike across country again. My hart has always been one of a restless nature and I have never liked to stay in one place to long to ware out my welcome. You could say i was in the mind set of there is always something better around the corner. Most times than not I would find the worse than the better. I guess that is the real reason i traveled because if i had found the better or what i was looking for i would not have traveled thus. As I stopped my Coke and gulped down my Roast beef and mustard sandwich, i checked over my money situation. I was down to my last $200 dollars and soon would need to make a stop at a bank to get some more cash out. So here, I was on this dusty road in the middle of July 1986. Looking down each road trying to figure out what my next move would be. Its funny how fate has a hand in things as i was sitting there this old guy comes ridding up on a three wheeled bike in the back he had a basket full of blue water jugs . He says to me as he rode by hot day to day! I say sure is but could not ask for a nicer one! Not a cloud in the sky he says nope but there is rain coming soon the tree’s leaves are all turning up side down.
