A book about pirates following the book Poison by Roald Dahl.
Lightning flashed around as I thought to myself, how it could be so dark at twelve thirty in the afternoon. By now, the ship way ready to leave. This would be the last time I would ever see India with my own eyes. Then our ship slowly sailed into the darkness. There had been reports of pirates taking shelter from the British Navy around the town of Uran only about 8 miles away. Harry and I were always on our toes in this area. I asked “Do you think that we will have an encounter?” “Of course” my friend Harry replied sarcastically. After he became afraid of snakes, all he ever wanted to do was leave.
Three hours into the trip back to England, we noticed that we were being followed by a large ship. Just To be safe, the captain pulled the boat closer to shore, but even that didn’t work. We all went to bed as the waves began to rock us to sleep, and the first thing I knew, we were being marched onto an island in chains. This swampy plot of land was made even worse by the damp and roofless bamboo jail cells. There weren’t many people in our cell because most of the crew had died trying to fight off the pirates. The rest had to walk the plank after the pirate, Captain One-Eyed Willie heard of a plot to revolt.
The pirates, under Willie’s influence, loaded us onto the massive ship, but having our own room, he had us chained up in the hull. About every 8 hours, they would let up go up on the deck for fresh air. One time, a prisoner tried to jump of the edge, and was dead before he hit the water.
A tropical storm arrived that night, pouring buckets of rain down upon our freezing bodies while the buccaneers cowered inside their wooden fortress. Seeking shelter from the downpour, Timber and I tied our jackets and shirts together to make a canopy. This only worked for about 2 hours and when the wind stopped, the shirts began to fill up with water. My head filled with exhaustion, I dozed off into a deep sleep.
I was so bored… I even made a sand castle today, but the slowly rising tide washed away my masterpiece. Last night we had tried to escape. Harry managed to pick the lock, and we even got into a rowboat, but another prisoner set off the alarm.
That night, the man in control of us forgot to lock the last person on the chain. This big, burly man called Frank was able to sneak into the crew area and bring the key back and unlock everyone.
I had already informed Harry about the plan to use the rowboat to escape when. We got the chance, but when I lowered the boat into the water that night, Harry started screaming for help. “The boat is leaking!” The whole crew of the ship was up on the deck in less than 30 seconds. We decided to jump, until the pirates mentioned that the closest land was over 30 miles away. We went right for the cargo net to get back on the ship.
That was when I saw the island on the horizon. They chained us up, and the next morning, they made us walk the plank. By this time, the island was a lot closer and was thought to be abandoned. We swam our hearts out fearing the sharks below would attack. Everyone made it to the island except for Frank, the only one who didn’t know how to swim.
What the pirates didn’t realize was that this small Caribbean island was actually the heart of the British Navy in the Caribbean, and they sent all their ships after the pirates. We all got to sleep in comfy beds as the Governor personally arranged the transport of each prisoner back to their own countries. We were finally free.
