This short story is an imaginary tale about a small girl who gets back her eye sight after an unusual retinal surgery performed on her eyes based on her dreams. Sounds weird? read on…
Rubbing her eyes in the middle of the night, Demi came to her mother and crawled into her bed. She had a bad dream and wanted to share it with her mother and hug her as tightly as her small hands would allow her to.
‘Mom, I had a terrible terrible dream about you and a monster fighting. The monster was really angry with you because you had stepped on his toe. As soon as he was about to hit you, I woke up. Mommy why do I get such dreams?’
Anna, Demi’s mom had heard of such dreams from Demi several times but had never really gone into the depth. ‘Baby, the dreams will go away in some time and they are never real. You can make them go away by waking up as you just did. So don’t worry, mommy is fine, the monster wasn’t real. Come baby, sleep with mommy.’ Demi always wanted this cozy feeling after such dreams so that she could sleep peacefully while cuddling with her mother.
Demi woke up in the morning and tried to find her mom by stretching her arms all around her. When she could not find her, she called for her. ‘Mommy is coming darling.’ Anna came with milk and some nuts and some apple pie for Demi along with medicinal syrup. Demi had to drink this syrup everyday for her eyes as the doctors had prescribed. Yes, Demi is blind from birth.
‘Mommy I don’t want to drink that medicine, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.’
‘I know darling, that’s why I got you the apple pie to leave a sweet taste in your mouth.’
They hugged each other and Anna got Demi ready to drop her to the day care.
Bryan, Demi’s dad was coming back from his official trip today and Anna was baking a pound cake to welcome him.
‘Hello my sweetheart. How have you been? It seems like ages that we met. How is Demi, is she still getting those nightmares?’
‘O yes Bryan, she is, and there is hardly a day when she doesn’t come and sleep with me in the middle of the night’
‘Well I think we should go to a pediatrician and tell him about her dreams’
