A brief overview of an evening spent at a carnival.

This ride consists of rocking back and forth until the momentum builds enough to complete the loop a few times, then halting the ride at the apex of the loop. While hanging upside down one becomes aware of the creaking and groaning of the steel stricture under stress. And just when one could become concerned with the noises surrounding them the train begins to move again, backwards. After a few backwards loops the ride comes to a stop to allow the passengers to get off, unless the carnie decides to give them the “special ride.” The “special ride” involves several instances where the train begins to slow and gently roll to the bottom of the loop, only to shoot back up the incline.

Upon exiting the ride, I realized just how set the carnies were in giving me a run for my money. Seeing as how there was no line for the ride, we were invited back on for a second trip. I abstained from this experience to ride the “Cliff Rider.” This time I was simply spun around in a circle, not a loop. Oh but don’t forget that the elevation changed. Dips and inclines and a whirling, rushing world of flashing lights surrounding me, this was almost as bad as “The Ring of Fire,” minus the possibility of being held upside down for an indeterminate amount of time.

After a few more hours of defying both death and nausea, it was finally time to go home; with a hermit crab, two goldfish, and a stuffed lizard in tow.
