A short story I wrote for school. It is about an Aussie adventure between two brothers.

                Climb to Soar

Jack woke in a cold sweat, looking up at the grey shaded roof. He turned his head to see the morning sun peeping through the blinds. Hoping it would make him feel better, Jack rubbed his brown rough face, yet either way Jack felt the agonizing heart break, from the loss of his father. During Jack’s shower, while he was motionlessly standing under the drizzling water, he heard a couple of quick knocks on the door. Jack stirred his half asleep body out of the shower. Barely clinging on his towel, Jack opened the door to see his chirpy brother. “Hey mate, came up with the best idea!”

Jack stared at him with his down casted face, not knowing if he was dreaming or not he replied, “Okay?”

“Just thinking, right? Us two been working for fifty weeks of the year and we haven’t gone out bush walking since we were fourteen with dad”

“Yeah…. Your point is?”

“Let’s go out to Dead Man’s Hole, like we did with dad”

“Nah, I already feel bad enough; please don’t bring up those old memories”

“But mate, shit happens and you gotta deal with it aye. You think dad would want you sitting around here sulking all day? I think it’s about time we live life how dad did, not doing our exercise in those sticking gyms but getting out and about in the bloody awesome country and taking advantage of the environment”

“Yeah but how do you get rid of that awful feeling that we’ve lost dad forever?”

“You don’t, you just learn to celebrate his life and remember what we had with him while he was here. Plus we still have him in our memories, and we always will”

“Okay, I will try, but one quick question…”

“What?”

“When do we leave?”

“Well now would be great, but your barely got a towel on you, so…”

“Okay I’ll be right back then”

After Jack gathered his stuff, the two of them headed out for the drive in the blinding morning sun and they arrived in the heat of the midday sun. When they headed down the trail, they found that the track was barely used by other hikers, but the even though the walk was harsh it was full of beautiful scenic views.  After two hours of sweat tearing down their face’s, Jack asked, “How much longer? It’s bloody hot!”
