My commonwealth essay, got a credit.
Darkness fell and loomed over the whole forest. It would soon be midnight. All the animals had gone to sleep. I thought it would be pointless to continue hiding in the filthy bush, waiting for an unsuspecting prey to pass, thus I decided to return to my den. I have waited for the whole day, and had only caught a miserable crow, whose flesh was old and not tasty at all. My stomach was growling hard. I was never a talented hunter and I used to use my wits to obtain food. But now, as time passed, my tricks were seen through by all the animals in the forest, including the most stupid wolf, Dave. Thus, I had been having difficulties to find food. Well, I was a fox with beautiful red hair and a bushy tail. My name is Ren.
On my way back to den, I caught sight of a beam of light. Thinking there might be food, probably succulent beef, I crept towards the light. I sneaked my way out of the forest and a castle stood tall before me. I was totally flabbergasted. Having lived in the forest for some time, I had absolutely no idea that there was a castle just outside the forest.
“If there is a castle, there must be humans. If there are humans, there must be food,” I muttered to myself.
With hope of finding food, I crossed the moat and sneaked into the mysterious castle. It was spacious and it looked frightening. I screeched and it echoed down the corridor. I proceeded with caution. I roamed about the castle hoping to find the place where humans stored their food. Suddenly, I caught sight of a light, a very dim light. I walked towards it. I reached a flight of stairs leading down to the bottomless pit of darkness. After some time, I finally reached the bottom.
In the dark, I could make out metal cages on both my sides, with humans snoring inside. The humans were extremely smelly and the hair on their mouth and head, I assume, was much more than those on my tail. I was surprised that even humans were kept in cages. I had seen animal being kept in small cages to prevent them from escaping, but not humans. A chill ran down my spine as I imagined who the owner of the castle would be. Deep down the corridor, I saw a flicker of light, followed by metal clanking sounds. I raised my ears to hear for any other movements. I stepped cautiously towards the light, but unfortunately, I was seen by the knight patrolling the dungeon. I sprinted towards the exit as fast as possible, but in the dark, I took a wrong turn in the process.
