Written for my English class we had to write a short story. I really think this was a great piece. It is interesting.
I just got out of my last prison term; the judge thought I had learned my lesson. My name is Sheldon. My friends call me Backbone and my enemies call me Fear. You see, I was always known for being tough and being able to suck things up. I am fairly tall, at least that is what my mom always told me and that I was just big for my age. Last time I was caught stealing, I thought I was going to go crazy in that small confining cell. But, it was not so bad after all. Sometimes, my sister would visit me for a very short time until the warden told her to leave. My cellmate, Steven (we call him Rammer), was in here for the same reason I was. Our cell became our home, just big enough for a bunk bed on the wall. I never hurt anyone, at least not anyone that didn’t have it coming to them. I told the judge I was innocent, even though I knew I wasn’t. That made the punishment worse. I guess they hate it when you lie.
I was a star athlete before I started spending all my time in here. So, I knew how to run. Yes, breaking out of here would be easy, except for the hiding part. I was never good at hide and seek. So, why would I be good at busting out of this cell and hiding from the law? I got in here for stealing that one priceless treasure. People worked so hard to earn it, but I had not had one in such a long time. It was my time to get some of the happiness. But, why was I caught? Well, the little squeal let the law know it was us. Oh, man! Does that girl have it coming to her when I get out of here! Though it seems funny, the same girl who caught me also caught Rammer. We both want revenge. But, back to my story. I ran with the prized possession, made it to my room in my house, and managed to enjoy it before anyone could catch me. It was the perfect plan. Grab the prized possession and run. I had it all planned out. There was just one mistake. My wristband broke. I didn’t notice it. It fell into the treasure’s case. That is how the little rat caught me.
