A revolution that turns into a coup d’etat in a near future United Kingdom.

Welcome to the ten o’clock with Huw Edwards on the 18th of November 2012. Tonight’s news:the price of oil has reached $500 a barrel which is equal to £250, these prices are because experts announced this morning that there are only one thousand gallons of crude oil left on this planet. In other news the Communist Republic of America has invaded México…

“Wake up honey quick!” A shrill voice awakens me from my deep slumber. I groggily sit up and start to regain my senses. Instantly I know something is wrong. My wife’s voice is highly strung and sounds very scared. There is an odd flickering orange glow outside my bedroom window.

“What’s going on?” I manage to mumble.

“What time is it?”

“There is a fire!” My wife is screaming now.

That brings me to my senses. I quickly leap out of bed to my window in one bound. O my God!

“I can’t believe it.” the whole of London seams to be ablaze. As far as the eye can see a bright orange glow is flickering intensely.

“I’ve got to get to work.”

“Your coming too, get dressed”

“Why what’s going on?” my wife asks still sounding very scared.

“I don’t know. I’ve got to make a phone call, get my best clothes ready for my return.”

I run out of the bedroom to get to my phone in the kitchen, on the stairs the phone starts to ring. I jump the five steps into the kitchen and answer the phone.

“Yes.” I answer after the fifth ring, “What is going on Webster?”

“It’s the Americans sir. They’ve declared the UK part of their socialist republic and have called on the UK communist party to rise up against the government. That’s exactly what has happened.” an anxious Horatio Webster reports.

“So be it. Assemble the cabinet at number ten and send a car to my house for my wife and I.”

Ten minutes later my wife and I are pulling into Downing Street. The door to number ten is illuminated with the light of one thousand roaring fires towering out of control. We walk through the door to be greeted by Horatio Webster, the Deputy Prime Minster.

“The cabinet is ready for you.” I am informed.
