In this short story a fifty year old hacker finds out exactly how credit cards were developed as the human race began trading between tribes after they left their cave dwellings and started running around. This tells about what was discovered by the gray headed old man.

Middle Aged Hacker
It’s just too bad that I retired last year. Being able to kick back and enjoy some free time naturally made me stop working as a programmer. Playing with lines like, if X equals Y do this or do that can become very boring. Any programmer who reaches fifty years old probably has had enough, like myself, on their birthday. Why should my mind be compiled every day?
Grand Father Computer Scientist
It’s just too bad one of my grandsons was too young to understand how he could be ripped off. My son should have written some kind of shield to keep those greedy monsters from ever having any contact with Bill. That way the trash bag would never have been able to get my grandson to use his father’s credit card to purchase a non-existing toy. Why haven’t the schools taught Windows 3.1 history classes?
The charge for nothing at first didn’t look like it was going to be too bad a loss. It’s just that other crooks got hold of the credit card number and my son started owing the credit card several hundred thousand dollars. How can people still get away with ripping you off like they did in the eighteen hundreds?
Grand Parent Hacker Motive
Who really could tell me what was purchased and where the things were shipped? In order to trace the thief down it was necessary to track all the purchases through the credit card company main frame. Unfortunately it was near impossible to search there. That Friday afternoon when I gave it a look into with my desk top a letter of mortgage foreclosure arrived and my son raced his half ton pickup over to our home so quickly it tore up the front yard skidding as he stopped it from ramming the living room wall.
It turned out to be a mind lifting coincidence that my wife had called in our four daughters in law to talk about helping Mark and his wife. Since they were all in when he raced into my old office alarm spread quickly through the rest of our family. Shouldn’t families band together against thieves?
