A small group of teenagers who aim to stop the world from demon invasion reside at the heart of a rural town, but can they save one of their own?
LUCY
Excuse me?
LAURENCE
(Leaning in slightly)
You heard me right, babe.
Lucy swiftly slaps him. He puts his hand to his face in shock, and pulls his head back up to her in a menacing fashion. He immediately goes to hit her too, but his hand stops in mid-air. He looks at it, pulls it back, and runs outside the cantine. He keeps running until he is in a secluded area, and puts his hands to his thighs, leaning over, trying to catch his breath. He holds out the hand he nearly slapped Lucy with in front of him, and retracts it into a fist. He stands up, and grasps his head with his hands, almost in pain. He seems to be fluctuating from nearly crying to being in hysterics, but eventually just starts panting heavily with a large grin on his face. The camera zooms in to show just his eye which flashes red.
CUT-IN: A car park. Laurence is standing in the middle, his arms stretched out as he begins speaking “Demon” (random blurb). Charley and Greg enter and he stops, turns around facing them, and smiles.
Laurence
(Shouting from afar)
Don’t tell me….a cross. That’s what you’re gonna use right? Or is it something more original like….garlic? Me being some new age vampire and all.
CHARLey
(Shouting back)
Na course not. Please, continue.
Laurence
Ah, just here to watch then? Hmmmm. Fine. Now where was I….
Laurence continues his chanting as a red light descends from the sky. Greg looks on in amazement as Charley opens a folded piece of paper. She begins chanting other Demon words in unison with Laurence. Laurence stops and looks at her. Realising what she’s doing he begins to raise his voice. Charley raises hers to a scream, as the red light fades.
Laurence
(Shouting to the sky)
Listen to me!
The red light fades dimmer and sometimes brighter, until it eventually completely goes. Laurence lowers his head and stares at Charley. He begins walking towards her, increasing his pace. He comes within touching distance, when he grabs his stomach and collapses to the floor. Charley and Greg run up to him as a black orb leaves Laurence’s mouth. Greg holds out a jar above the orb’s path as it floats in. He screws a lid on the top and puts it into his bag. Laurence collapses to the floor and Greg and Charley smile at one another.
CUT-IN: All three are sitting at their desks, swiveling on their chairs.
Laurence
So how long was i out for?
Greg
(Looking at his watch)
Three weeks, four days and 9 hours. I think.
CHARLey
Out of interest what did you have me chanting to nullify the signal?
Greg
Random words.
CHARLey
Like?
Greg
Stone…..parsnip….I actually think you did the Demon for “random” as well. How ironic.
CHARLey
Does this translator of yours actually have any useful phrases rather than random words.
Greg
Seeing as it was only £4.89….no. But who doesn’t want to know the Demon for “parsnip”?
CHARLey
So Laurence, what’s it like being out of it?
Laurence
Just like sleeping really. Bit more painful when something rips away from your soul though. Anyway what exactly did “I” do while I was away?
CHARLey
The odd weird thing.
Laurence
Time for some damage control me thinks.
(Laurence gets out of his seat and heads for the door)
Charley
Wait, Laurence. I think this needs dealing with first.
Charley points to a red flashing dot on a map, on the monitor; a demon. Laurence sighs, and heads back to his seat. The camera pans away from the three as they get to work, over to a shelf of black orbs, with small white signs below them. The camera zooms into one on the top shelf in the middle. The sign reads “Groysk Plan DO NOT TOUCH”. The camera fades to black.
