A very short children’s story highlighting the issue of not doing as you have been asked.

Danny went to his childminder every day before school.  Her name was Zoe and she lived in a house with a big garden.  If it was a nice day he played outside with the other children who went there. He really liked going there as he could play on the trampoline.

One sunny morning Danny went out to play with Ethan, Matthew, and Dylan.  Zoe was sorting the children out so they could play on the trampoline.  Danny was very excited.

She said “Okay children, there are too many of you to go on the trampoline all at once so you must take turns.  Ethan and Matthew you go first, then after 5 minutes you swap with the others for their turn.”

Just as Ethan and Matthew climbed through the safety net and onto the trampoline the door bell rang, Zoe said “Ethan and Matthew stay where you are and no bouncing till I come back, understood?”  The boys replied “Yes Zoe.”

Zoe went to answer the front door.  Whilst she was gone Danny got so excited he climbed up the ladder onto the trampoline and started bouncing.  Ethan said “Danny stop it” Danny replied “No,” and continued bouncing.

After a few minutes they heard Zoe say “Come on Ella let’s go outside with the boys.”  Danny knew Zoe was coming back so he hurried to get off the trampoline; he knew he would be in trouble if Zoe saw him.  In his rush to get off the trampoline Danny banged into Ethan and Ethan flew out through the open safety net landing on the floor, banging his head when he fell.

Zoe came outside and found Ethan crying on the floor and asked him what happened.  Ethan was to upset to say anything but Danny said “I pushed him.”  The other boys then told Zoe exactly what happened.

Zoe said “Danny you are a good boy for telling the truth but you are very naughty going on the trampoline after I told you not to.  Because you were naughty Ethan has hurt himself.  The reason I told the boys not to bounce was because the safety net was still open and it needs to be shut before you bounce on the trampoline.  Danny you are not allowed to play on it again.”

Danny said “Sorry” to Ethan but he was very sad he was not allowed to play on the trampoline.
