Well, this is a random segment of writing I made. Enjoy!
Darkness and Electricity
Chris grinned wickedly, eyes darting from side to side. An odd excitement had come over him, that feeling of all his cards having been played, the thrill of a gambler. This was it, take action or die trying. With one smooth step he stepped out from behind the wall, raised an arm, and sent one sizzling bolt of lightning right into the beast’s head, a plume of smoke erupting around it as it cried out. He only had moments before the Shadow recovered, and he was going to use them well. He turned and bolted for the door, as the beast screeched and literally flew after him, it’s body twisting and shifting as it hovered inches from the ground, no obvious sign of anything keeping it in the air. It was a massive serpent of shadows, it’s head that of a dragon, it’s body smooth and fluid, small ripples of darkness and shadow interplaying throughout it.
Chris’ grin was one of a madman by the time he’d reached the door, death right on his heels, shadowy tendrils already darting forward, grabbing at his arms, slithering up his legs, yet the source wasn’t yet close enough for them to have any real substance. He threw the door open, spared just a moment to check on how close the creature was, then physically dived into the building, feeling the rush of air as those jaws snapped shut where his body was seconds ago. The Shadow crashed into the building with a crack, shaking it to its foundations, the very earth heaving and groaning from the force of the impact.
The creature hissed into the door, it’s head shifting and changing, pressing itself into the door, as it became nothing more then a formless mass shadow, literally pouring into the building. Something laughed maliciously behind it, and Chris saw through the slightly transparent shadows the figure pulling the strings, dark tentacles extended from the man’s hands, forming the beast. Chris’ hands were already crackling with electricity again, and with a laugh he sent another bolt into the mass of shadow, smoke erupting again from the spot. The shadow screeched once more, the figure on the other end having visibly been shook by the effort of holding the darkness together.
Chris stepped back, bringing both of his arms up, feeling the power coursing through the very room. He brought it all into his mind, every volt of electricity going through each light, each wire in the room. He started to walk backwards up the stairs, arms still raised, as the bulk of the shadow forced it’s way in, splitting apart and spreading across the room, sweeping across the floor, crawling on the walls, shooting through the very air itself.
He brought his arms crashing down, with massive effect. Electricity shot from all over the room, all aimed at the part of the darkness still pouring through the door. The shadows screeched, and for just a few moments, it dissipated, the smoke that erupted from the impact covering the door, and the man on the other end of the shadows gasping and falling to his knees, his face going pale, feeling the drain on his strength like a physical blow.
By the time ‘Raven’ was back on his feet, his quarry had vanished, the smoke having covered his escape. Raven practically hissed, seething at the fact that he had gotten away once again, when the man had been in his grasp, the fool’s life in his hands. He couldn’t believe this had happened again…
Such was his anger that he didn’t see the figure, dressed in black, creeping along the rooftop. He didn’t see the flash of a knife, and by the time he saw the power line swinging towards him, it was too late.
He had time for one last thought, though.
