This is a story my friend and I wrote for a contest called "Write about China, go to China" and I won a trip to Beijing.
A blond girl is sitting in a coffee shop and reading the newspapers in peace. Another girl is coming her way, she has dark hair, and looks like a younger version of that cute actress Sandra Bullock. She is wearing a t-shirt with some Chinese print on it.
“I’m sorry I’m late” the Sandra Bullock lookalike said to the confused blonde, “My bus was late…” and sat beside her.
“No it’s ok…” Ivana looked at her from head to toe and continued, “Irene, darling what are you wearing?”
“Ah, I think it’s called clothes! Why?” Irene replied comfortable in her zen peace.
“Are we in China?” Ivana asked and took a quick look around, “Because it seems, that I’m in Osijek right now, and you’re again imagining you lived in Shanghai?!”
“I know, but I love to wear it, anyway…You should better check what you’re wearing.”
Ivana looked at her self lazily. She is wearing a typical white shirt and jeans. Shrugging her shoulders, she replied: “Normal clothes, Irene, not like you!”
Irene just waved her hand and picked the menu.
“What should I drink, hmm…” she mused out loud.
“Maybe a Chang Shlang tea? It definitely goes with your clothes!” Ivana suggested and laughed out loud.
“Yeah, I could, but not, it’s too warm, so beer it is!”
“Darling, they don’t have Chinese beer in here, Ire…Chan…Lee…Na!”
“Whoa, good name. I love it!”
“You love everything about China!” Ivana added slightly bored.
Suddenly, Irene grabbed the newspapers from her.
“Oh my Buddha, look…it’s Jackie Chan! How I absolutely love…adore…praise…that man! He’s my true idol!”
“What a surprise?!” Ivana rolled her eyes and took another sip of her beer, “You know Irene, I really should tell you something, you need to clam down a little about China. Some people…”
Before she could finish the sentence, Irene screamed in delight at the newspapers.
“…are fed up with it!” Ivana finally finished her thought and stared confused at Irene’s pale face and sudden silence, “What is it now? Please don’t tell me Jackie Chan died or what? The aliens abducted the China wall? What is it?”
“Listen to this, oh my Buddha!” Irene was shaking from happiness while she contunued , “I can’t believe it. My dreams could finally come true. They put a contest in the newspapers for China!”
“No kidding, and here I really thought for a second, it was about…hmm…Canada maybe?”
