This is story that was inspired after passing a roadside memorial for a dead deer. My first thought when I saw the flowers on the dead deer was now this is going too far. Then I thought well maybe it was someone with a child that hit the deer and they did it for the child and this was how I got the idea for this story. Look for other stories daily inspired but things I see or do with my Children.

As they walked back to the car, Jackie noticed that Sam was still there. She asked him why he stayed and he said “Your daughter made it clear that she expected me to stay for the funeral.” All five of them said a prayer and laid their flowers on Bambi. The officer was filling out his paperwork, and commented that this was the first time he actually had to shoot a deer with a name and give it a funeral. Jackie had just put Cailyn back in her booster seat when Robbie took off towards the woods. Jackie grabbed him and he kept saying “lookey, lookey” and pointing towards something in the woods. After Jackie put him in his car seat she went back to see what he was pointing at.

About ten feet away from where they were standing she saw a new born deer, which could not stand on her own. She called the officer over and that was when she learned that the deer that she hit appeared to have been pregnant or recently gave birth. As Jackie went over to the baby deer, the officer contacted Animal Control. He came back and said it would be about three to four hours before they could respond. Jackie decided she would take the deer to her house and they could pick it up there. This way it would be safe.

Jackie walked over the car and got a blanket. When she placed the baby deer in the back of the van, Cailyn jumped out of her seat into the back and gave it a big hug and kiss. She then said “Mommy did God send this one down to replace the one we killed?” Jackie did not know what to say at first but then said “Yes, Cailyn he did. He sent us this one to take care of until the proper people can pick her up, he saw how good we were to her Mommy when she was hurt.”

Once they got they gave the deer, which Robbie had named Kitty Cat a bottle of milk. The deer was quickly regaining her strength and they spent about five hours caring for and playing with her. When Animal Control arrived at the house, they said their good-byes and cried a little. Then they got a nice surprise, the deer would be doing her rehabilitation nearby, the facility would keep her name of Kitty Cat, and best of all they could visit everyday.
