Ever known what it’s like to lose a friend? Ever known what it’s like to lose all your friends? Ever known to lose a friend while they hate you? Ever known what it’s like to lose all your friends, while they all hate you? Nicola has.

Chapter 1

Glamour was packed. Teenagers with friends looking at the new teen wear. Women looking in the women’s department. Mothers with babies in the kids department. Even men were browsing in the men’s wear. Nicola started folding the maternity tops that had been picked up and thrown back on the shelf. A pregnant woman searched through some dresses.

“Excuse me?”

“Yes Ma’am.” Nicola turned to face the woman. Holding up a blue maternity dress.

“Do you have any bigger sizes out back?”

“I’m not sure. Would you like me to check?”

“Please. Sorry for the bother.’

“Don’t worry. It’s fine.” Nicola smiled and turned to the storeroom door. She swiped her ID and stepped into the room. She walked over to the maternity storeroom and searched for the blue dress. She found 3 spare dresses. She pulled them off the rack and rushed back to the woman.

“Thanks.” The woman smiled and took the dresses. Examining the sizes.

Nicola turned back to the tops. She folded up the last top, and turned to the staff room. She walked in and opened her locker, pulling out her jacket. She picked up her bag and shut her locked. Glancing at a boy with black hair, changing his shirt, she walked out. Waving at George, the security guard. She rushed back to her Mum’s apartment. Her home.

Chapter 2

Naomi jumped into her car. Frankie had asked her to drop round. Her birthday was coming up, she hoped  he was planning something fun. She started up the engine, practically jumping up and down on her seat. She drove onto the town road. She smiled at Nicola, who seemed to be in her own world. To Naomi, the 5 minute drive to Frankie’s felt like years, at the least! Naomi parked the car in Frankie’s driveway, he was walking towards her. Eager to see her of course! Naomi noted Frankie wasn’t smiling. She jumped out.

“Frankieeee!” Naomi cooed, giving him a bear hug.

“Let’s walk to the river.”

“Uh oh. You hate the river.’ Naomi let go. Frankie was already heading for the park.

Naomi trailed behind Frankie, in silence. At last they reached the river.

“Naomi, I’ve not planned anything for you birthday.”

“Oh, well, that’s, fine.” Naomi looked down upset, expecting something far worse.

“No it’s not. But, I told Nicola to.” Frankie murmured.

“Thanks. You always plan it, the last 3 years…”

“Yeah but we were going out then.” Frankie replied, turning to the river.

“Aren’t we going out now?” Naomi looked up.

“No.” Frankie replied slowly. Naomi suddenly understood what was happening.

“Frankie, you’re not doing this! No way!” Nicola shouted.

Frankie glanced at Naomi sadly, he looked like a man on the stake to Naomi.

“Naomi, I am. Now let me take you to your car. I’m still friends with you.” Frankie replied, getting a grip on himself.

“Stop telling me what to do.” Naomi replied harshly. She stalked off. Frankie caught up with her.

“Bye.” Frankie stopped. Watched Naomi walk off annoyed. He pulled out his phone and rang Nicola.
