Déjà vu-a short story

dia- Déjà vu, also calledparamnesia, is the experience of feeling sure that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously (an individual feels as though an event has already happened or has happened in the near past), although the exact circumstances of the previous encounter are uncertain., déjà vu is usually accompanied by a compelling sense of familiarity, and also a sense of “eeriness,” “strangeness,” or “weirdness.” The “previous” experience is most frequently attributed to a dream, although in some cases there is a firm sense that the experience “genuinely happened” in the past.

“Its Déjà vu”, Sharad said.

“What?” I asked. It was 3:30 in the morning and we had just retired to bed, the night outside was silent and still, the room was dark and I was lying on the left of the bed, the side I always slept on. It had been this way for the past 8 months ever since I’d moved in with Sharad.

“What’s new?” I asked again when he stayed quiet. A month full of exams can be nerve wracking for anyone. Well, it had been for me. It’ll probably be weeks before the webs that Maxwell, Castigliano and Reynolds had weaved around my head would clear.

“This, this moment, dark moonless night, you tapping away on your cell phone, my checking the time, it’s almost as if something is going to happen.”

I looked down at my hands, or rather at the place I thought my hands were, I could only see the LCD of my mobile blinking, I’d been in the middle of sending a message, which was pretty normal ,I sent about 60 messages a day.

It was then that the feeling struck me. I’d been here before too, this moment, this conversation, and “sending message” flashing on my mobile, and it was as strong a déjà vu as any I’d ever had before. Thousands of sparks flew in my mind as one picture clashed with another and I rapidly searched for an answer…where had this happened? How did it come about? , and what happened next? I searched deep, and then realized that the answer did not exist. It was something I thought had happened in the past, it hadn’t actually happened, or was it like; I had imagined this happening in my future, my future in my past, had I imagined my future into existence? this was getting confusing.
