Looking over the Tucson desert from the mountain she’d climbed sat June Plumberg.
She loved to look out at the wonderful nature almost everyday after work she would be sitting right here. Most nights Mike worked anyway, being a doctor and all. She never knew when he would be home. Mike Fontana was her long time lover/boyfriend; they’d been together for seven years now. If he got off early enough he knew where to find June.
They made a lovely couple everyone said. He was tanned with wonderful blonde hair and blue eyes, she was also tanned, but her hair was brown and her eyes were a wonderful green. They showed the depths of her emotions. And of course everyone also wanted to know when they would finally tie the knot. Both of them would change the subject and act as if the question had never been asked.
Sitting up here though she began to think how nice it would be to marry Mike, and have children with him. After all seven years is a long time, they should know by now if it would work. June didn’t like to push Mike into decision though; she knew he had enough pressure at work.
“Hey are you up here?” A male voice called. She knew it was Jess; he’d been climbing lately with her and enjoying the view.
“Hi Jess, I’m right over here.”
“June you always manage to look so good.” He smiled his crooked smile at her.
“Thanks Jess and you know how to compliment a girl.” She smiled back. Jess had been her friend since they were six years old, when his parents had moved into her neighborhood. Well not really a neighborhood, their farms had been separated by five miles, but the families had become fast friends anyway. She remembered how happy she was that she would finally have another kid to play with around her age. The only other kids in the neighborhood were four and five year olds, plus a few babies. June also remembered her crush on Jess; he was handsome with his dark looks. Around age 16 they had dated for a few months, but it hadn’t worked too many other girls wanted his attention and Jess was a hopeless flirt. He hadn’t changed in those ten years, his hair was still the silky black it had been and his skin was as dark as a Greek god. Plus his eyes were a wonderful hazel that had gold specks in it, looking into them was like dreaming you were on a cloud.
