A funny look at the rights of victims versus criminals.

hello folk’s, I want to tell you a true story. It happened not to long ago (and not in a kingdom far, far, away)but right here in the good ole U.S.A..My family lost all their income due to the Daddy being laid off work so we couldn’t make ends meet in our home so we move in with the In- laws, well one day our neighbor calls and tell us that our house has been broken into.Well we go and take a look and sure enough the house has been robbed, well the neighbor sees all the stuff from their side yard(we have those here in the south)a BBQ grill the kids bicycle’s and any thing metal that wasn’t nailed down and truly some of the stuff that was, in one of the other neighbors trucks ready to be taken to the scrap yard so he could make a quick buck. The police are called and all the stuff in the house that’s missing is documented and all the damage done to the property(5 bags of the other neighbor’s garbage(gross right!!!!!)is strewn all over the living room carpet, pictures are broken out of their frames and a busted front and back door.)Even with all the damage I’m not angry yet,My neighbor comes over and talks to the police and tells them the guy that stole all this stuff just left to take it to make a fast buck from the junk man.well the police go have a look and sure enough there’s our belongings in his yard ,my neighbor then says he bought some things from him knowing they were ours(yes we had to pay the neighbor back what he spent on our stolen property)The police ask (and this is the dumbest question on God’s green earth)do we want to press charges? I look at the officer as if he just grew 2 heads) and tell him of course I want to press charges(now the little person in my head, and y’all don’t act like you don’t have one too,is laughing her butt off.The police then inform me because no one saw the guy break into my house all they can charge him with is possession of stolen property.(I kid you not)So I take the police report down to the magistrates office downtown and file a warrant for the guy’s arrest they say it’s issued and they should have him in custody soon.OK, I can deal with that ,we gotta do everything by the book so it’s all nice and legal(riiiiigggghhhttt).Well(and this is a real funny part to this tale) a week goes by the guy is still free as a bird,we get another call from my neighbor,my daughters window has been broke out .We go over there (and get this) we got robbed again!!!!!!!all the stuff they didn’t get the 1st time is gone. We call the police again and my neighbor asks “Well is this barbie doll (still in the dang box)yours?” of course it’s the one my daughter got for christmas the year before .I then ask where he got it and he informs me and the police that he got it from the same guy that broke in before, and yet again  fill out all the appropriate forms and ask if the officer is going to arrest him,he tells me he can’t(really!!!!!)At this point I’m about ready to blow and I ask the policeman “If I wear a ski mask and go beat the holy crap out of this guy with a bat and he never saw my face and there are no witnesses, can I get away with it?”The officer looks at me and(I swear by all that is holy)asks if I just threatened the guy WHO ROBBED ME TWICE!!!!!!!.Well we go back to the magistrate and file another warrant and a few days go by then I see the guy in the super market and you know I pull out my cell phone and call the police(because the said they would have to find him to pick him up)and tell them he’s in the store they say they are on there way and I leave so I don’t make a scene.I call my neighbor and he says the police are (get this )at his house(breakdown in communications?)well they missed him.I then see his car broke down a few blocks from where we are now staying and I call the police again. Now this is the part where I get mad,and it is freaking hilarious.Get this, they tell me I am violating his civil rights(I’m drop dead serious)and they tell me to stop harrassing this jerk. This guy who broke into my house not once but twice has way more rights than I do .He never goes to court ,they don’t arrest him,but I (the victim)get a lecture like I’m 2 and not very bright, and they tell me he can now sue me for harassment.I don’t know about y’all but doesn’t it seem that the criminals, crooks and junkies have more rights than the victims who are hardworking ,God fearing, taxpayers?
