One-Up Guy.

Have you ever met One-Up Guy?  Sure you have, he could be a random stranger at a bar, a friend, a relative, or maybe you are One-Up Guy.  Who is One-Up Guy you ask?  Well, he is usually between the ages of 15 and 40, talkative, and lives life to the extremes.  No matter what you have done in your life, not only has One-Up Guy done it, but he has done something similar but ten times more extreme.  The vastness of his one-upsmanship knows no bounds, from the absolutely mundane, everyday task to feats not humanly possible.  His experiences are not just good, but he has suffered terrible, terrible lows.  One-Up Guy often suffers from KTD, Kinda True Disease.  One-Up Guy can be of any race, creed or sexual orientation and can be found  anywhere from Small Town, USA to New York City.  Although, the variations of One-Up Guy are many there are several common charictaristics to common to all types of One-Up Guy, they include.

  • Stories are ended with the phrases similar to “It was crazy!”, “I almost died!”  or “The people around me were amazed!”, which is usually followed by a quote from an onlooker, either anonymous or a mutual aquaintence that is not currently present.
  • If One-Up Guy throws a party that you did not attend your next conversation will involve the large number of people that were there and the multiple testimonials from unnamed attendees about how awesome the party was.
  • One-Up Guy is very well connected and could possibly be a direct decedent of a very famous historical figure.
  • One-Up Guy was a High School Sports Phenom until an extreme injury or lack of playing time due to the coach wanting to start his son, ended his career.
  • One-Up Guy has seen and done things that he can’t talk about, except to you, to which you are now sworn to secrecy.
  • One-Up Guy had sex with the homecoming queen and a teacher, the hot one.
  • When One-Up Guy drinks, its never less than a case of beer and a fifth of liquor.
  • In group settings One-Up Guy will ask you to remember a time that he did something awesome.  In this scenario,it is best to just nod your head in agreement to not risk prolonging the tale.
  • When One-Up Guy changes jobs or moves, people cry, a lot.
  • One-Up Guy has put at least one famous athlete in their place by telling him off and asking him if he “wants to take it outside”.  To which, said athlete declined, and later apologized and stated that no one has ever talked to him that way before.

Those are just a few of the common One-Up Guy traits, however there are also many variations of One-Up Guy with whom you might know, such as….

  • Golf One-Up Guy shot even par the first time he played golf, at the age of 2.

  • School One-Up Guy was valedictorian in High School and could have gone to Harvard, but decided to go to an in state school, who has the top program in the country for whatever his degree is in.  He was valedictorian there also.  They ask him back to lecture regularly.

  • Facebook One-Up Guy has more friends than you do.

In the future I will be profiling more “that guys, that girls and those people in general”.  Let me know if you know any other One-Up Guys, and just for fun forward them a link to this article, it will be worth it just to hear them say”I hate people like that.” Which will be immediately followed up with a far superior One-Up story to anything I have listed here.
