The second of a few.

“Would like to add a coffee and make it a combo?”

“Wha-No, thank you.”

It was just another long day, and since Luke’s high school had been closed temporarily due to a fire up in the tech lab, it was made even longer. But since Luke knew how to spend days like this, he was fine with it. It took a full five minutes before his order of a BLT sandwich and chili was ready, and even though it wasn’t his, he appreciated the fast service nonetheless.

After a few seconds of scanning past the 20 people lined up for a coffee, he found that Nicole had managed to find a table with two chairs that was propped up against the support wall. She knew that Luke had always preferred to sit facing the window, so she obliged him by sitting with her back to it. When he had finally managed to squeeze in through the lengthy crowd, he stumbled as he was almost at the table, nearly falling and dropping the neatly arranged food.

“Well, I thought I was done there.” said Luke as he placed the tray done close to her.

“Don’t blame yourself; some people are just so rude today.” Nicole said as she looked down to the food in front of her, then back up to Luke. “Thanks for getting me this, but… you could’ve gotten something too, you know.”

“Nah, I already ate a while ago.”

“Oh, well, I can’t eat all of this by myself.”

“I’ll finish what’s left of it then. Kay?”

“Thanks, you’re wonderful.”

Luke and Nicole had been seeing each other some time now. Not in the practical dating sense, but they often saw each other at this Tim Hortons, so Luke wanted to talk to her and see how things were since she left midway through elementary school. She had died her black, and Luke found it more appealing than her usual blonde hair. Then again, Luke always had a thing for her.

“So,” Nicole broke the silence after wolfing down a nice chunk of her sandwich, “I wanted to talk to you about how things were after I left.”

“To be honest, I wanted to talk to you about that too. You know, like how your new school was like and stuff.”

“Well, mine was kinda boring, you talk first.”

“Do you want me to say everything? Like with me and personal stuff?” He knew this to be an excellent tact, as it would confirm whether or not she did like him in that way.
