This is a continuation of teh last on where we talked about the "OLD GUYS". this time will talk a friend of muine who raised sheep. HE was an interesting old guy, but kind of kept to himself a lot.
This
ld guys” name was CHARLIE, he drove an old Chevrolet pickup that I think he bought new when he got out of the military after World War 2. So when I knew Charlie it was at least 20 years old. But thats not the story, the story is about my son Gerry and the sheep he got from Charlie. Charlie was not a high class sheep breeder but he had good animals, the sheep that Gerry got from charlie was a cross bred ewe. That means she did not know who her papa was, but it did not matter, Gerry needed a project.
Gerry had joined 4-H and he needed a project to work on. Then in the fall at the county fair all the youth would show
off the job they had done with their animal or other project. The young people had many different projects. some groups had horses, some had dairy cows, others had beef cows to show. On the final day of the fair they were all auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Gerry had spent many hours working with his sheep that was called “SHEEP”. the reason being he just could not think of a name, He had been calling her “Sheep” for so long she answered very well to that name. He had to clip the sheep to get its wool in the right condition and then curry it, wash it until its wool was very white. The amazing part is that this sheep would follow Gerry around and obey voice commands. When he wanted to take her down to get her weighed and have the vet check her, he would just open the tailgate on the pickup and tell her to get in and she would jump into the back of the pickup.
On the day of judging every one had to show their animal, when gerry took “Sheep” in to the ring she preformed like champion, and she was becaus she won Grand Champion, for show man shiip obedience and all catagories , she was best of show. She was competing agaist purebred Moreno and other breeds. but she won.
It was because of love, that animal loved her master and would do anything in the world for him and he would for her too.
The “OLD GUY”made it possible for Gerry to be a winner.
