A short story describing pressure that is commonly felt throughout examination periods and how to deal with it.
Examination Pressure
So you’re coming up to doing some exams and all you seem to be able to do is panic. Everything you’ve ever learnt seems to float away out of reach and you struggle to grasp what is left. Revision seems the only way. The more and more you read makes the cloud over your head seem to bulge in size as it steals your information. A crushing pressure seems to take place above you and the sense of being powerless against it seems to sink in to your mind. And you believe it. Minor stresses are blown out of proportion and things seem to go against you. Despite this, you manage to keep a cool head, remember what is needed to be done and relaxation comes to the rescue. The revision guide has shrunk in size as you divide up parts that are needed to be learnt; The cloud overhead begins to spill its contents over you. Confidence builds up inside you as the information and ideas start to flow naturally again. An early bed time and a well deserved rest prepares you for the following day. A nice easy start relaxes your mind and last minute notes add the finishing touches to your knowledge. After a suitable drink and substancial breakfast, it is time to go. Outside the exam room your heart begins to rush and panic begins to set in. Don’t worry, this is normal to you now. A gentle sip of water and your pen at the ready. Remember what you learnt and put it down onto the paper.
