An Exercise for the Mind to influence Creativity and Imagination. Practice growing you own Optimism of the day to come with your first cup of coffee.

“The imagination exercises a powerful influence over every act of sense, thought, reason, — over every idea.”
~ Latin Proverb ~

Here is an exercise for you.  An exercise to open your mind, strengthen your creativity and wake up your imagination.

I want you to wake up one morning, fairly close to dawn.  Make your cup of coffee, that’s okay, I understand not everyone is a morning person.  But as you take that cup of coffee, instead of following your normal routine, I want you to find a quiet chair.  Not in front of your computer or your TV or even the newspaper.  Put everything aside, its just you, the chair and your cup of coffee this morning.

Now as you sip that cup of coffee, close your eyes and enjoy the taste of it.  Put that in words.  How would you describe it to someone who has never tasted coffee before?  Sweet or Bitter?  Does it slide easily across your tongue or do you roll it around?  Does it warm the heart, or clear the mind?

Now your mind is working – its thinking.  Now close your eyes and drift to your writing – be it a story or poetry.  Let your imagination wake up and exercise.  No need to write it down just yet – lean back in your chair, enjoy your coffee.  This is to exercise your imagination, not your pen.

Once that first cup of coffee is done, breath easy.  Your exercise is done. Continue your day as you normally would.  Go back to the computer, the paper, the TV.  Back to work or school.  Finish your day.

But at the end of it, tell me:  After you took the time to exercise your imagination… did you find your thoughts deeper throughout the day?  Perhaps brighter?  How was your mood?  Please let me know.  I am interested.

Because I find the days I am able to exercise my imagination, the day seems a little brighter, the air seems a little fresher and the world seems a little happier.  There seems to be more opportunity and I am better prepared to grasp it.

Tell me your story.
