Living in a world where government has found a new power in technology, Jeremy Finde copes with the amazing events that follow the advancement. He realizes what true contradiction is.
“Sensation abounding, humanity astounding”, those were the only words I could utter, I don’t know why I was talking like that, it was almost involuntary. There was a feeling that nothing was stopping me, I stood up, my head ached, throbbing, it was different, new, and fresh. I caught myself, I was speaking aloud, words just came to my tongue and I spoke. I could feel cool air, it was covering my back, I looked around and I could see people. These all looked the same, their faces bland, emotionless, I wondered if I looked any different. Over my head, I could hear coming out of speakers, sound, a man. He addressed the whole group of people, as fearless. After a minute of talking he goes on to say “and it is my duty, for the people of this fearless earthly planet, to keep everyone intact, keep you moving along, and keep you faithful.” I watched, as the sound faded away, the people. They all were talking; noise was flourishing, and growing louder. I asked a thin person, who appeared to be a man, “What is going on?” He only replied with a grunt, pushing me to the side.
I had to relearn what thinking inside of my head meant, it was a weird feeling, and I did not really care if I was talking aloud, but I wanted to be able to silently think. Everything around seemed like it was spinning. I wandered outside, to a garden. People were also there, except these ones were blue. I looked at my skin, brown. It never changed. I looked and there was another crowd of people, they were orange, and others, red, pink, yellow, black, green. I did not have any idea what was going on, I was alone. Suddenly behind me, there was a tapping on my shoulder. A cheery green-skinned girl asked me if I was lost. I was speechless, I could not get words out, this was out of the ordinary, it was a dystopia, or maybe a utopia, I could not tell. I told the girl that I knew something was different, I couldn’t figure out what. She told me to sit down, her accent was heavy like that of a British woman, and the olfactory of her presence was that of cigarettes and mint, along with the faint smell of wine.
