Eye Spy – True Stories

a)Last year 2009, There were two queues outside the Train Station for the Ticket Machine. One was for customers who wanted to use a cash card, the other was for those who were using cash to buy tickets. The queues were a bit long and I stood in the Cash one. I just happened to look down and there was a crispy £20 note on the ground. I picked it up. A few people saw me and must have been kicking themselves, it looked real. I couldn’t believe it. I wondered how the people in the queue never spotted it, all that time.

b) Another occasion, a while ago. I had just finished teaching an evening class and arrived home late about 9.30. As I walked round my car to go up to my flat, I spotted £10 at the back, on the floor.  I looked round to see if anyone was watching, then I wondered that if I bent to pick it, there was a chance it might move. (someone playing a prank?). Anyway, I picked it up and nothing happened. I definitely remember giving the £10 away to someone who needed it the next day, but don’t ask me what I did with the £20 above because it didn’t have a name on it.

I think sometimes money does fall from heaven. :)

It’s only happened to me very rarely, but when it does it is a delightful feeling. i once came across a discarded lottery scratch card that was actually a winner. Only £3.00 but still a treat :)

A couple of nice stories LadyElena. I found fifty dollars laying on the floor in the bank one day. I gave it to the bank teller and told her someone may come back looking for money they lost. About six months later I got a nice letter from the bank thanking me for being so kind and honest. No one claimed the money so they deposited it in my bank account.

How much does a 10 pound note weigh? :-) Does a 20 pound note weight twice as much?

disclaimer: this corny humor wont mean much to you since you use the metric system in England. However a “pound” is an American unit of measure.

Hi LE- I have witnessed some such occasions, but every time this was my wife who picked them, most of the times they were not bigger than 50, but once she picked a packet consisting of about Rs 18000/ ($400), while visiting a very crowded temple. We spent some 2 hours to find the family who had lost them. That was a real satisfaction.

Good thing it wasn’t a prank. I remembered something funny that happened in school. We folded a fake money and placed it on the stairway. Someone spotted it. He took it then ran away quickly. It was hilarious.

They were two lucky days for you. My hubby often finds coins on the ground. I never seem to. A lovely post.
