I got two great news this day- one from my son and one from my boss.

Last night, I drank with my best friend, Devon. We worked as a cook in the same restaurant for nine years. I was deprived of a chance to become a lawyer. I happened to be interested in cuisines so I landed in a cooking job. Devon majored in Culinary Arts. He is obviously a food connoisseur suffering from gluttony. He wanted to become a chef. So when our chef decided to resign, he was so delighted. He had too much to drink and threw up a lot  so he got absent today.  

This morning, our boss talked to me. I was obviously nervous. What if he fires me?

 “You made this unprecedented recipe?” Boss was savoring some noodles when I entered his office.

“Yes, Boss.” I nodded. I experimented on some ingredients three days ago and I came up with that recipe. Our chef liked it and introduced it as a new product of our restaurant.

“It’s finger licking good.” Boss burped. Next thing I know, he was offering me the position as the next chef. “Think about it, Mr. Richardson. It’s your choice.”

I was so flattered by the news but how about Devon? Boss gave me three days to consider the offer. The promotion allows higher salary.

For the first time, Kevin came home early. He was holding an envelope and a letter. “I made it to Harvard! Daddy, I couldn’t wait to tell you!” Then he hugged me for the first time.

Kevin loves sports since he was young. He eventually became an outdoorsy athlete. Last night when I was drunk, I unintentionally told Kevin that trivial sports will not help him land on a decent job. Now, I couldn’t believe that Kevin is going to the Ivy League. This is the best time of my life. However, we have to pay astronomical tuition fees. Also, Harvard is not giving athletic scholarship.

My wife told me to call Devon and confess before he hears it from somebody else.
