A brief description of the little-known Kingdom of Fayrem.

The tiny Kingdom of Fayrem has only two cities. The largest of these is named Fay Tor, and occupies one of three hills that make up most of the Kingdom (it is sometimes known as the Three Hill Island). Although the Kingdom is not an island, it is surrounded by two rivers, the river Faye and the river Skye, in which can be panned the most beautiful and expensive blue rock, known as arcaphalt.

This crystalline substance, when roughly cut, has the sparkling appearance of a deep blue diamond which appears to give off its own light. When cut thinly in sheets, arcaphalt looks like a deeply tinted reflective glass. It is the main source of the Kingdom’s wealth.

The other city is named Marshmorp.  It is situated beside the second largest hill in the Kingdom (hidden from view of the big city of Fay Tor) and not far from the coast.

The small coastline of the Kingdom is mistrusted by most people, mainly because of the strange influx of visitors it has yielded. Some of the beings that are said to have landed on Fayrem’s shores were twice the size of the average Fayremite. They brought bizarre wares and strange-tasting foods to the little Kingdom.

As mistrust breeds fascination, half of the mythological culture of the Kingdom centres around the sea. There are tales that a monster lies in the darkest depths, and during a night of the full moon he is freed from his watery prison, and can float up and over the land. He is said in some stories to slither into the towns and take any child who is not in its home. In others he is said to cast a shadow over a house which causes bad luck for a year and a day, or until the youngest family member is sacrificed.

Aside from the two rivers leading to the sea, Fayrem is bordered by a large forest and a mountain range. These are also mistrusted by the people of the Kingdom. The Coldrock Mountains make up a Kingdom in its own right, inhabited by a race of people who are lithe and tough. Although these people are not their enemies (Fayrem does not have any enemies, largely because of its great wealth), the Mountainers have a reputation for thieving and trickery, and are not largely welcomed in the Kingdom of Fayrem.

As for the Wildevale forests to the west, it is said that in their centre is a spring from which gushes the power of eternal youth. But it is said also that a witch named Njsia lives guarding it at the edge of the forest, and that anyone who ventures far into it is not likely to return.

There is, in fact, another small Kingdom on the other side of the forest. They have cut down many of the trees, up to the edge of a small river that used  to run through its centre, and now live in wooden towns in abundant meadows. They would have cut down enough forest by now to reach Fayrem, but they will not cross the river as they are afraid the glittering blue-tinted waters hold a power that is best left alone.
