A short story I wrote a long time ago, meant only to invoke one feeling, I chose fear.

She walked down the narrow alleyway in search of her friend; They had gone to a night club that night and her friend had gone outside to hail a cab. Though since it was dark , with no hint of light it was impossible to find her. It was almost silent except for the snickering of nearby mice and the stray cats that would occasionally jump on things or let out a cold meow. She continued walking down this long alleyway wanting to get out as soon as possible, but when she heard a foot step she stopped in her tracks and whipped her head around quickly looking to where the sound originated. There was nothing there so she started walking again, picking up her pace. When she reached the end of the alleyway she turned around once more and saw a figure at the opposite end of the alley. Frightened, she screamed and started running down the adjacent street, hearing the footsteps following her she ran faster heading into the cemetery hoping to God she would lose her pursuer running in a zig-zag like pattern. When she thought she had gotten far enough she stopped to lean on a grave stone to catch her breath, which didn’t last long,  she felt a hand on her shoulder;  Startled, she screamed and set off running again straight into an open mausoleum. She closed the door behind her and fell to the floor, scooting to the wall, crying and not knowing what to do. At that very same moment her pursuer began banging on the door louder and louder as the seconds went by and harder and harder she screamed in dread.  She didn’t know what she could do; she had nowhere to go, no way to get out of the trap she led herself to.  Then it stopped, everything stopped and it was utterly silent, there was absolutely no sound.  She stopped screaming, dried her tears and stood up. She went over to the door and put her ear to it, wondering where her pursuer had gone. At the very same moment her pursuer started banging again and this time it was much louder, causing the young girl to jerk back with an immense amount of force into the opposite wall and instead of crying or screaming she fell silent and just watched in terror as her pursuer kept pounding and pounding on the door. Her eyes nearly came out of their sockets when she saw the small crack that was forming in the middle of the door; the shock began to settle in and she started panicking and crying again, and it seemed to her the more she heaved with every sob the bigger the crack got and finally it broke completely and her pursuer came into the darkness of the mausoleum.  As he got closer her screams got louder and louder, and all of the sudden they stopped, and it was quiet again, and screams were heard no more.
