Anna contemplates whether or not to stay in California, Eva tries to win her sister over with clothes.

Eva sighed. Of course, she didn’t realize how crazy her sister was until she brought her halfway across the country. “So why didn’t you stop yourself from calling her those names?”

Anna shrugged. “I wasn’t looking for a fight, you know,” She lied. Eva nodded, pretending to believe her sister.

“Where did you get your pot?” Eva was curious because when she lived in Nebraska she had drive to Sutter Valley to get some.

“See, that’s the thing, that’s why I had to go to prison. I wasn’t arrested for fighting Emily so they wanted to lock me up for something, and I made it way to easy for them! The cops over there, they have nothing to do at night so they pull people over for dumb reasons like speeding when no one else is out on the road! It’s so fucking stupid!” Eva didn’t point out that speeding was a very good reason to give a ticket. “And you know James’s dad is best friend is the sheriff, that’s another reason I was arrested,” Anna vented.

“So, how did you and James meet?” They seemed so different from each other, Eva had to know.

“How did we meet? Eva, everyone in town knows each other.”

“Yeah, okay, but how did you start dating?” Anna thought about it.

“I don’t know we just did. He would let me buy cigarettes.”

“Really? That’s the only reason you would have sex with him?”

“No. But it was a real bonus.”

Eva laughed quietly and shook her head. “What happened to you, Anna? I mean, fighting? Drugs, prison? When did you start smoking?” Eva waited for an answer. “Well?”

“When I was ten.”

“Is that when you smoked your first cigarette?”

“No, I smoked my first cigarette when I was eight, I didn’t cough once. I didn’t really start until I was ten.”

“Jesus, what about pot?” Eva was afraid of the answer. Anna silently looked at her hands for a while before responding.

“I was eleven.”

“Eleven? What? Who would give an eleven year old marijuana?”
