The continued story of Anna and Eva Gomez, two sisters born 10 years apart and living in totally different existences who decide to spend the summer together in Eva’s Los Angeles house after Anna was arrested in Nebraska for drug possession.

They drove silently, both of them were nervous. Anna had never been out of a 30 mile radius from where she was born. Eva had never spent a lot of time with her sister, she knew nothing about her. Neither of them knew how to act.

Out of her rear view mirror Eva saw a teenage boy chasing after her car, his arms waving wildly. Wondering if she left something on top of her car, she pulled off to the side of the road. Anna didn’t know why they were stopping, did Eva change her mind? It became clear why after James St. John, of St. John’s grocery, knocked on her window.

“Do you know him?” Eva asked.

“Kinda. I’ll be right back, okay?” Anna got out of the car, walking away as her fingertips barely pushed the door closed, leaving Eva to hear everything.

“What is it?” Eva could hear Anna ask the boy.

“Emily told me you came into the store,” he ran his fingers through his hair. Eva studied him. He had on a pair of basketball shorts, but he didn’t wear them like the kids in L.A., he looked like he had really been out exercising. His shirt advertised the local football team. Everyone in middlecreek followed the team, and all the boys played. James was one of the star players, scoring game winning touchdowns often. He was quite a bit taller then Anna and had visible muscles. He had dark eyes and hair, his skin was tan from summer sports, but in the winter he was as pale as anyone else. He seemed out of place talking to her little sister.

“So?”

“She said you were leaving and you weren’t sorry for anything.” Eva wondered where this was going. She turned off the engine to her car.

“Yeah, I’m not.” Anna said, taking out a cigarette.

“Listen, I know you know that you shouldn’t’ve said those things. I’m not angry about that. I’m angry that you beat up my little sister-“

“She threw the first punch, James. She knew what she was getting herself into,” Anna snapped. Eva knew her sister’s anger level was rising, but she was confused about the details in this story. James looked sick. He changed his mind about this conversation.
