A short, cute, children’s story.
A Day in the Life of Flick the flea
” Hello my name is Flick, and I’m a flea. Being a flea isn’t easy and sometimes it is just scary. So I’m going to show you what it’s like to be a flea for one day.”
The sun was out, blue sky with no clouds in sight and I was enjoying it. I was hopping and digging in the sand when the sun was blocked out. I looked and saw a furry monster standing there in my sand pit. I started to hop away when a gust of wind came along and the next thing I knew I’m in a forest of soft trees.
By the time I felt better to hop out I noticed the air had changed from a nice warm air to colder temperature. I had a bad feeling about this and to see if I was right I headed for the tops of the trees to take a look. Sure enough the sight I saw reminded me of what mama was always telling me, to be careful of playing in the sand pit. It was the most dangerous place to be in the furry monster’s owner’s home. ” Oh boy”, I said to myself, “it looks like it will be awhile till I get home to mama and supper.” Now knowing where I was, I would have to try and stay out of sight till the monster went back out to the sand pit. Mama always said if ever I got picked up on a monster to head for the lowest area. This is to help when you hop off, your chances of getting hurt is less. I headed to the area thinking I would get there by lunchtime.
As I was walking along, the furry monster started to move. Wondering if the furry monster was heading back out, I ran to the top of one of the trees. What I saw made my little flea mouth drop open. We weren’t heading back out but to the Waterwhirl. Now the things I’ve heard about the Waterwhirl are not good, but I’ve been told what to do if you ever find yourself near one. So I headed for the top of the monster, where the two pointing triangles are. I entered one. It was dark and a little slippery but it had to be better than being in the Waterwhirl. I knew I needed to hang on to something while the monster was in and after when it shook it’s self off the extra water. When the monster was done in the Waterwhirl I started to head for the lowest area again hoping there wouldn’t be anymore problems.
While I was hopping along, I felt a burst of warm air coming through the trees. Knowing that we were outside again, I went running the rest of the way down to get ready to hop off. After a few minutes I looked over the edge to see if we were anywhere near the sand pit. I could see it just a few feet away from where we were standing. The monster started to move but was moving in the wrong direction. So I decided to just hop off where we were. I held my breath and made the leap. After getting on the ground I hopped as fast as I could to make it home.
” And here I am at home with my mama and our family enjoying supper. Tomorrow will be another day for us fleas. Thank you for reading my little story.
