The starlit night shown through the windows that hung cracked open allowing the cool breeze that drifted with night, like a duck drifts in water. To drift into the bar bringing the feeling of a calm Christmas morning. Sounds of helicopters crossing over the town back and fourth like a bee flying over a field searching for the perfect flower could be heard through these tinted windows yet these bees searched not for nectar but for terrorism.
This sound once led David to believe his people were protected and thus gave him a feeling of safety inside of himself, yet now as he knew he was the one being hunted he found himself a little worried. Not for his sake but for hers. Yet strangely at ease perhaps because he knew in his heart what he was to do next was right and maybe just maybe it was because he found himself in a familiar place finally after being away for so long.
As Monk sat at the end of the bar waiting for the others to arrive Jess exited the bathroom and sat next to him. “Hey thank you for closing the place down Chad.” David said before tapping Chad’s shot glass and shooting back a double shot of clean scotch that had aged 20 years in oak.
“Not a problem bud. Sounds like a real big deal. I still don’t believe it, but seems like you got your hands full with this book thing.” Chad replied after drinking his as well. The two then sat their shot glasses labeled with their names cast in silver back to the bar. As Monk sat on the stool Jess asked for more water and Chad turned to get her a bottle from the fridge behind him and as he turned and sit the bottle onto the bar he asked, “So you two met in this other world huh?”
“Yup.” Jess answered with a great smile as she opened her bottle and began drinking it.
“Well we gotta drink to that there David.” Chad said with a smile as he looked to David. He then grabbed the bottle of scotch that sat next to the book Jess had sat their before going to the bathroom when they walked in.
