“Come on Beth. Don’t cry. I understand now what I did was wrong. I am sorry, I knew that the moment I seen you again.” Jason said speaking through the door of the stall. Beth sobbed as she remembered the look on his face.
“Then why, why Jason? Why did you tell me to just go and be with him?” Beth asked through her tears.
“I don’t know. I was just mad because I wanted you to stay out of it. I mean what if the driver in that car would have blown up closer to you.” Jason tried to assure her of his love with his tone as he spoke hoping she would understand his woes. “When I seen that on the news and heard everyone talking about it I hated myself for ever even having you down there.”
“Then why did you. All I ever wanted was to be apart of your life as much as I could. I even joined the peacekeepers because I didn’t want to be away from you. How do you think it made me feel for you to say you were leaving. We grew up together Jason.” Beth replied as she cried that much harder from the memories of their wonderful childhood together.
“I know Beth. I know and I can’t take it back but we are here now in this moment making our own future.” Jason paused as he too remembered the great childhood she brought him. One memory in particular caught their minds simultaneously.
“I can’t wait to get out of this town and make a difference Beth. Me and you will be together forever and no one will tell us what we can and can’t do cause we will figure it out together.” A young boy age thirteen sat in the tree house his father had built talking to his neighbor who he had known for eight years now.
The young neighbor spoke back as the night sky filled the small window of the tree house while the two held each other looking out into the stars. “Jason?” The young girl dressed in grey sweatpants and a black hooded sweatshirt asked.
“Yes Beth?” The young boy dressed in black sweatpants and black t-shirt asked.
“Promise me we will always be together no matter what happens.” The young girl held the young boy’s arms that were wrapped around her tighter as if to hold on to the answer she knew he would give forever.
