Short story about life, emotions, and vampires.
Charlie entered his apartment and ditched the drenched coat on the couch while making a b line for the rotary phone that hung beside the fridge. He didn’t even notice the mess his wet boots were making and he wouldn’t of cared anyway. Shaking hands navigated the dial while the receiver sat between his head an shoulder. BANG! Charlie spun around dropping the phone. The noise sounded like something pounded on the window. He focused his eyes expecting to see the vampire of Fox Glow laughing and ready to make bad on their deal. There was only muddy red bricks. He hung the phone on the hook and made his way to the window and tried to look at the ally beneath it. It was to dark to see much of anything and he had to be sure. He spun the crank that operated the window and leaned his head out, surveying all that he could. “Any vampires out here?” he shouted with a smile.
“Just me.” said Sheryl.
Before Charlie could scream the vampire clutched his throat and tore him from the window. He had brief moments of conciseness and in these moments air rushed past his face like he was flying. Other moments he could hear her speak of how sweet he smelled. In his final moment he imagined his walk home from work and how it began the same way every night for the past five years.
