Based on the novel of Frankenstein, a description of the night Victor Frankenstein created the monster from the view of a servant.

Dear Diary,

Today was probably the most horrifying, hellish, and disgusting day of my life as a servant to Dr. Frankenstein. It started out just like a conventional day but by four o’clock in the evening, things started to transform…

I was just nonchalantly staring out of the gothic window in an idle moment; taking in the bleak view of the home we call Ingolstadt. Gazing down into that horrid town of death, I could see the bodies from the earlier hanging, still twitching, clinging on to precious life. The pitter-pattering of the rain on the roof of the vast gothic church echoed on the far side of town and just as the lightning struck the soaring steeple, I though that this society just could not get any worse than this. But I was safe from all that in there. Or was I?

A strident banging broke me out of my trance, but I just assumed that as usual, it was Dr. Frankenstein at work with his ‘innovative’ inventions and sciences again. It stopped pretty soon. I fell back into my daydreaming but was suddenly awoken again, with some deafening crashing and smashing, coming from the kitchen. I didn’t know what to feel. The doctor then unexpectedly showed himself, with a terrified look on his face. He then flew backwards, again out of sight, which traumatized me the most. I heard an ear-splitting scream and out of the window saw a diminutive shadow among the spooky bushes, gradually creeping away.

At this moment, the terrible stench hit me. I nearly vomited as I breathed it in but I just about survived. As it grew stronger and stronger, I figured out why I was not allowed in Victor’s lab. Whatever, was creating this disgusting odour was something to do with him. I decided it would be best for me to stay in the parlour, thinking that maybe the abnormal monster did not know of my presence. How wrong I was!

At that second, a mammoth, vomit-green, beast came bursting through the defenceless wall, and the smell became unbearable. Its asymmetrical limbs were clearly haphazardly mismatched from different individuals but the main features were just about in view among all the slimy blood, sweat and greasy hair, of which its unsightly face was covered. However, as it edged towards me, it got slower, its breathing became deeper, and just a few feet away from me, it fell down onto its broken knees and burst into tears. I swore loudly in my head. What was I supposed to do now? Was I to treat the monster as a member of the family seeing as it was born here or to make my move to escape whilst I could? It dawned on me that although it was probably the ugliest thing ever, it was still human. Although I could not stay with it much longer as I would puke and make myself ill, I did my best, gave it some bread and water so it would survive. But as soon as I could, I ran for it. Whatever, or whoever, it, he or she was, it was not human. Not anymore.
