A boy watches his best friend be burried.

I was standing there, motionless and sick to my stomach. I couldn’t see him due to the coffin that he was in, but I could still see the face, smashed, deformed and bloodied. As I stood above the coffin with my best friend being lowered into the cold, hard, harsh ground, I realized that I would never see him again. I would never spend hours with him, party with him, go do stupid things with no purpose just for fun, ever again…

Hunter stood there looking as confident as he always did. He was holding his new girl in his right arm and a cold bottle of Dr Pepper in the other telling me to hurry up so we wouldn’t be late to the party. He was the party guy, it wasn’t a party unless he was there. No way was I going to miss one of these again. No way would that happen, before Hunter became my friend, I was one of those kids that sat on his computer playing video games or looking up new technology news and video games. I got picked on, I was just about as low on the food chain as you could get. Hunter showed up and before I knew it we were best friends, he loved everything that I did. But he was a completely different personality, he could make anyone smile. And he was the one that gave me that confidence.

I stood there, I just waited and waited for him to get up out of the coffin laughing and saying it was all a joke and he had fooled us. To bad in the back of my mind I knew that wouldn’t happen. It was almost as if it wasn’t real. I mean, come on, there was no way one of the best athletes on the football team could be dead, there was no way the guy who always had the amazing girl could be dead, no way the guy who could befriend anyone and make those who weren’t his friends laugh so much that they soon were his friends could be dead. Now way at all…

We got to the party that night in Hunter’s car and as soon as we got into the house, things got lit up. And by lit up I mean the music got louder, the drinks were getting poured even faster, and the guys with their new girls were finding secluded spaces more than usual, and it seemed to be because Hunter had shown up. I soon found the group of guys around the large Hight Definition TV hooked up to a Xbox that were usually at the parties I went to with Hunter. Hunter came and joined us for a while as we trash talked each other and played the video game. Soon Hunter went off in search of a new girl, I never bothered to ask him a girls name because he always had a new one.
