A TRUE story I had to write about a time I got in trouble in art class due to peer pressure.

                        “Bad Decisions”

Back in the seventh-grade I used to love attending art class every Thursday. I used to always finish my projects and assignments quickly, so I would always have time to just relax and talk with friends. One Thursday my friends and I had finished our assignments early and decided to all sit at the same table. Whenever I’d sit with friends we’d always have competitions to see who was the most courageous, funniest, or even weirdest. That Thursday we had decided we’d see who was the bravest.

My friend Jeremy said, “If you run across the art table then you’d be as brave as me.” I knew that was a bad idea but I didn’t want to lose the competition. “I’m not scared. That’s not even scary!” I stated. I knew this was a terrible decision.  As soon as the art teacher turned her back to help another student, my friend Jeremy ran across the table. Jeremy made it look easy. A couple seconds later my friend Hurley ran across the table with no hesitation.  I didn’t know if it was my turn so I sat in silence. Then my friend Phil walked across the table. What was going through their minds? Well if they could do it, I should be able to easily do it.  “It’s about to go down!” I yelled before I got on the table and began to run across it. As I was running my teacher, Mrs. Berry, turned around and said, “Terrell, what are you doing?” I stared in disbelief. My friends were still standing on the tables too. So my teacher told us all to go to the office immediately.

In the office we waited. There was a fight earlier that day so the dean was busy talking to other students. I felt as if I was waiting for days. A door opens.“Terrell, Phil, Jeremy, and Hurley come in my office,” said the Vice Principal. My stomach dropped. We all began to tell our sides of the story then the dean enters. The dean was a 6’11’’ guy with a voice deeper than the Pacific Ocean. Fear went through my body because I knew I was going to get in trouble. “Jeremy weren’t you just in my office the other day? You must like coming in here don’t you?” said the dean jokingly. I was glad the dean was in a “jokingly” mood; maybe he would think this is funny and we won’t get in trouble after all. We were in the office for the rest of that day.

After all was said and done my friends and I all received a 45 minute detention the following day. When I went home and told my mother she was shocked. I got grounded for two weeks. From this event I learned to never give into pressure; even if the pressure is coming from my “friends”. From that day on I began to think of the consequences before I take a risk.
