This is a book review.
This book takes place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is in the city in modern day time (around 2005). The major character is Cole who is a former 17-year old delinquent. Some minor characters are Peter who’s his best friend, some kids in school, Garvey the elder, members of the Circle of Justice, the school principal, and Cole’s parents.
The problem in the story is that Cole has just returned to the city, and there is a lot of violence and other bad things. The solution is that he tries to change that. This is the sequel to Touching Spirit Bear. I thought that it was pretty good.
In the previous book Cole was in trouble for beating Peter badly. He was banished to a remote Alaskan place. There he changed, and came back to society. Now he sees how bad the situation is. The story starts when Cole leaves the area with Peter (they became friends). Then they go back, where Cole’s mom and dad are completely separate from each other. Then his anger starts to reemerge in a fight with a bully. Then the bullies got in trouble. Garvey then talks with Cole and gives him some advice.
Then they become friends with one of the former bullies. However, a student then commits bully-induced suicide. This leads to an incensement of security in the school. They then try to help by getting the school mascot changed. I won’t tell you the ending unless you read the spoiler. In the end they are successful and his dad wants to change himself. The end.
