A little something that I wrote about a roleplay charecter of mine.
The damp forest was scarce of prey. Rabbits and deer on a low stock and the wolves are dying off from some unknown disease. The landscape has a huge river and some ponds and lakes scattered across the forest. Mountains outlined the edges of the horizon where the sun was just starting to rise while the nocturnal animals start to find their dens to wait out the day. A rabbit was nibbling on some wild turnips that were growing in a clearing when a large black wolf jumped out. His name was Gin. Gin grabbed the rabbit in his jaws and bit down, breaking its neck. He ate it quickly, since he hasn’t eaten in days. When he was done Gin walked over to a pond and took long draughts of water. Gin studied his reflection. Tall, muscular with a jet black pelt and almost glowing gold eyes. He smirked at his reflection and put his muzzle down into the water and shook it around, trying to wash the blood off his snout. He let out a howl that echoed off the trees and shook the leaves. He could be heard from miles away when he was howling. ‘Why is it that i am one of the few survivors? There were many smarter, stronger wolves then me but i am one of the few who survive?’ Gin thought to himself.
Gin looked up at his mother who was trying to pick some goldenseal with her maw. Her silvery hair had some dirt from where she was laying down. Moonshine’s light green eyes were scanning the plant, trying to see if it had any bugs hurting it. She looked up as Gins father came up to her carrying a fawn in his mouth. Moonshines mouth dropped open when she saw the young deer in Somon’s mouth. ‘When did you get that? We havent seen that much at one sitting since before the drought’ Moonshine sent to Somon. ‘I found it drinking from a pond. I scared away the mom, but this one tripped and broke its leg’ Somon replied. They both looked up at the sound of a howl that sent shivers down their spines. It was a dieing wolf’s howl.
Gin blinked and looked around. He has been having these flashbacks for days now. ‘I think i am losing my mind’ Gin thought while he stared across the pond to where his father caught that fawn. His ears perked up as he heard a higher pitched howl. Gin ran full speed towards the howl. He jumped over fallen trees and low brush and then stumbles into a clearing. He sees a slender she-wolf that is facing the opposite way from him. Gin looks at her and sees how her pure white coat has dirt and blood on it .He starts to walk towards her, but he steps on a twig that makes a loud CRACK . The she-wolf whirled around and faced towards him. He notices that she has emerald-looking eyes. ‘Why are you sneaking up on me? Hasn’t your mother ever taught you better?’ She thought to him. Her thoughts were a mixture of red-hot rage and fear.
Gins pup eyes widened as hundreds of wolves came over the hill and between the trees. He started to run to the den with his parents. They made it but fiftey or so wolves came in and stole every scrap of food they had. Then most of them left but a few stayed behind. They kicked the three into a pile and slaughtered the parents leaving Gin quivering in a puddle of his parents blood.
Gin feels heartbroken at the thought of his mother. He noticed that there were tears in his eyes, making the world seem fuzzy. ‘I was coming because you howled, and dont mention my mother’ Gin replied, trying to wipe his eyes. Gin noticed that the she-wolf probably hasn’t eaten in almost a week. ‘Are you hungry? I could try and get some food. Oh and you may call me Gin. What is your name?’ Gin asked her. Gin felt a cool breeze on his fur and noticed that the she-wolf was swaying in the breeze.
She was still mad at him but she decided to just forget about it. “No i am not hungry, thank you for the offer. And i am Spirit.’ She sent him. Really though her stomach has been eating itself for the past two days but she wouldn’t accept charity even on her death bed. She looked at him, wondering if he was just going to sit there all day.
Gin stretched out and wondered what he should do. It was obvious that she was lying and she was starving but he couldn’t feed himself let alone another wolf. He sighed and looked up at the sky, he thought they could start trying to find dens around the area and try and collect as much food as possible. ‘Would you want to try and get some food and dens?’ He sent to Spirit. He looked at her and waited. He got up and started to pace around the clearing.
Spirit thought that may be a good idea to work together and hunt. ‘Fine, but I get half of the prey’ She replied. They split up and went trying to find suitable dens. Gin found some beside a mountain but there were remains of other wolves in them. He hoped Spirit was having better luck then him. Spirit found some dug down by a river but they were flooded. She sighed and headed out to look for more.
About an hour later Gin found what he was looking for, a group of dens with nothing bad in them and a water source nearby. He howled for Spirit telling her he has found the dens. She came to him in a few minutes drenched. ‘Decided to take a swim?’ He asked her. Spirit growled in reply. He showed her the dens. She chose one that was a little farther from the others. Gin chose on that was in the middle. He smelled the wind for the scent of wolf but could only smell himself and Spirit. He sighed and went into the woods in search of food.
Spirit yawned and lay down to sleep even though it was only midday. She woke up at the sound of almost silent paws on dirt heading towards her. She wondered why Gin was disturbing her. She got up and headed for the entrance and saw a small mud colored pup coming towards her den. She smiled and wondered where he came from. ‘Hello young one, what is your name? How did you get here? Where did you come from? ’ She sent to him.
