Yea!-Girls Day! Hurrah!

What is Girls Day?  Why do women have Girls Day?  What are the benefits of a Girls Day?  I plan to answer these questions for you.

As children, my parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins would have family reunions once or twice a year.  We have a very large family.  There were a few family members who took turns hosting the family gatherings.  This was a way that our elders in the family thought we would stay close net as a family unit.

As children in the family grew up, they went their separate ways and the older generation slowed down.  We did not have the large family gatherings as we had in the past.  Some of the girl cousins, now adults, some married with children, and some not married, decided they wanted to rekindle their closeness, and decided to have a Girls Day.  We usually meet in the morning on Saturday, at one of the cousin’s home, to start planning what we would do that day.  These reunions took place once or twice a year.  Our cousin would serve coffee, juice, and doughnuts while we discussed our activity for the day.

Our Girls Day was dedicated to fun and no stress.  Our planned day starts with choosing a shopping mall where we can shop.  Once at the mall we pair up and decide where and what time to meet back up. When we would meet back up, we would decide where we would go for lunch.  After lunch, we decide to go see a movie. Once we leave the theater, we decide where to go for an early dinner.  Then we will go back to the cousin’s house we met at and sit around talking, about anything and everything.  When it is time to go home, we feel revitalized, because we connected, and took time to self indulge, be a little silly, and treat ourselves to a day of fun.  We have laughed a lot, and remembered days gone by.  Our agenda did not have many details.  It was very simple.  We just decided for the most part to enjoy each other.  Getting away for several hours to focus on nothing allowed us to go back and refocus.  These times we have had together were delightful.  Over the years, we have had several Girls Days.  Our love for each other and family has been strengthened.  I know there are various concepts of Girls Day.  I would encourage any women to embrace a Girls Day concept.  It can be very rewarding.
