Inside group therapy and the best healing technique for me.

I have now attended four groups. The first group I attended was awsome. It was a Progressive Group so you went once a week to this group and you talked. You told your story and things that you were finding difficult in your journey to healing and then you received feed back from other people in the group. Not the two counsellors in the room. Why this worked for me is because I was the youngest in the group and everyone else was so knowledgeable and gave me great insight. These people have been living with Anxiety a lot longer than I have and I took everything that they said and internalised it to the fullest. Then came the day where the government decided to no longer have progressive groups and instead have modules. I attended my second group which was once a week for 12 weeks. They had a lot of information from text books and a lot of read this and do the homework. If you asked a question they did not have time to answer. I stuck it out and finished the course as they called it. My frustration with this is all the papers they gave us to read up on could be found all over the Internet. When we went into a discussion it was as if they were being condescending. The counsellors may know what they read but they do not have to deal with Anxiety everyday of their lives. Everything they had us learning I already knew. The first thing you need to realize is the first thin you need to do is learn about your mental disability in learning this you learn about yourself. You start to understand the reasons behind the feelings that you are feeling. You learn why the mind does what it does. You learn why you have the thoughts that you have. I have learned so much about myself in just educating myself on my mental disability. I know more about me then I would ever have had I not educated myself. I think this is the most important step to healing.
