Dinner table

6:40 P.M.

“At least I don’t have two black eyes.” I said, me and Kiki slamming our feet at the evening dinner table.

Savannah looked bewildered, her black 6-year old eyes trying to etch out a message in our faces. Little did she know she had a huge black circle from her eyelids to the tip of her eyebrows.

We pointed at her eyes, and she got the message. “I just tried to get maked-up.” She said, pouting.

“Savannah, did you get in a fight at school today?” I said, mimicking my father. Kiki and I cracked up.

Savannah, not coming up with a comeback fast enough, flung a large, hairy, piece of pasta at me.

I screamed and it landed on the side of my plate, thank gosh.

I fling it back.

She flings it.

I fling it back.

She flings it again.

I take it and hit her dead-on in the face.

Savannah runs to the bathroom, fake-crying and I charge after her.

“Savannah, come on. It was a joke. Are you o-“

But I can’t finish the sentence. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a shadow creeps over me. My fate is already imminent. I hear the strict, stern, nasally German voice of none other than Helga, the devil herself. You would think that her German accent was enough, but it gets worse:

Helga was also an evil villain on the run.

Ok, maybe exaggerating a little there, but if there was ever a nanny who longed to step on small puppies, it would be Helga. And I swear on my heart and hope to die that she was, in fact, a villain in disguise. I swear I saw her picture with “Wanted” on it somewhere on the internet.

The hunchback germen woman looked down towards me and said,

“Amanda Jade Vrager, Vit down this eenstant!!”

Helga narrowed her eyes and grinned.

“Time to take out the X book.” She said.

“Oh no!! Not that old thing again!!” My sisters blue pupils dilated with terror. “I thought you forgot about that.”

“Vell I didn’t!!” snarled Helga, putting X’s next to our names. “Ven daddy hears about this voo are going to vee punished!!”

She seemed thrilled with the idea.
