A short story about a kid who has a party on Halloween and gets the scare of a lifetime.
Paul was at his friend’s house at 8:00 on Halloween night. They were planning on having a birthday and Halloween party at the same time. He turned nineteen two weeks ago and still hadn’t a party. He planned to make up for it on this night with as many people as possible.
He loved the fact that his birthday was Halloween. It was his favorite time of the year. He had spent the week before going to haunted houses with his friends. He thought they went to everyone in Preble County.
He loved things that scared him and got his blood going. He also liked scaring the crap out of other people whenever he got the chance. He could never decide which he liked the most. He blamed how he was on his mom. She was always did something to scare him when he was younger. She would hide somewhere and jump out yelling. He would do the same to her when he got old enough. His mom was always hard to scare. He had always credited his older brother for scaring their mom the worst.
His brother and him went out cruising one night and the car over-heated. They went back home to let the car cool off and to put water in the radiator. His brother came up with the plan to scare their mom.
Paul was instructed to go inside and get water. He was also told to make sure that their mom knew that the car had over-heated. He did what he was told and that was when his brother ran into the house screaming, he had his face covered with a rag.
“The cap flew off,” he cried out. “I got it all over my face.”
Their mom which happened to be sitting on the couch, flew up and over to him. Paul did his best not to burst out laughing. They didn’t get into the mood to laugh when his brother took the rag off his face.
Their mom slapped his brother as soon as she found out that he wasn’t hurt. She threaten Paul was about to get the same for being involved. They all did laugh about it later on that day.
He hoped that he would get the chance to scare someone on this night. People would actually have to show up first. Things weren’t looking good for the party. He was worried that nobody else was going to show up.
