A short story about a kid who has a party on Halloween and gets the scare of a lifetime.
“What are you doing?” He tried to yell out.
He went speechless when the boy got on the ladder that lead to the top of the tower. He thought his eyes were messing with him when the boy suddenly appeared at the top of the tower. He started looking around again to see if anyone was around to help him out. There never seemed to be someone around when he needed help.
“Come down from here!” He managed to get out.
The boy acted as though Paul wasn’t even in his world. He looked up at the night sky and then down to the ground. He took one step forward and went over the edge. He screamed at the top of his lungs all the way to the ground. He landed with a loud thud that sent cold chills up Paul’s spine.
Paul didn’t hear himself yelling when the boy was falling. He was in disbelief with what he just saw. He couldn’t believe that he just witness someone commit suicide. He quickly went for his cell phone in his pocket, but stop when the boy stood up.
He shook his head and didn’t notice that his hands were shaking. He was terrified and didn’t move. He thought he was seeing things and needed his head checked by a doctor.
He went for his cell phone as soon as he noticed that the boy was heading in his direction. He got the phone out and couldn’t flip it open. It was too late when the phone finally opened, the boy was standing right in front of him again.
The boy screamed again and took off running. He jumped the fence and climbed the ladder again. The boy took one step and went over the edge again. The boy screamed the same as he did before all the way to the ground.
“What’s going on?” Paul yelled out.
He knew that he was going crazy. That was the only explanation that he could come up with. Then a strange thought came to him. He could really be seeing a ghost, but he quickly shook the thought away. He knew his mind was just messing with him because of what they had done earlier.
The boy got up again and started in his direction. He shook his head in disbelief. The boy was right in front of him in second, and screamed again before taking off running.
This when Paul took off running down the road. He didn’t look back to see if he was being followed. He had to get home before he lost his mind. He didn’t care if anyone saw him and thought he was crazy for running down the road like a mad man.
His lungs felt like they was on fire when he was about a block from his house. He slowed down when he got to the sidewalk that led to his house. He couldn’t remember when he had to run that fast.
He finally looked around as he walked up the porch steps. He didn’t see one around and he finally started to relax. He was happy to finally be home.
His mom was standing in the living room wearing her blue night gown when he walked through the door. He knew that she was getting ready for bed. He just hoped that she wasn’t upset with him about anything.
“How did the birthday slash Halloween party go?” She asked as she turned off the television.
That is when he finally thought about the whole night. He thought about how the party never got to be the party that he wanted. He thought about Matt trying to get them to believe that the park was haunted, and how they proved him wrong. He couldn’t stop thinking about the walk home that he just experienced.
He finally smiled when he thought how he wanted to scare somebody, and how he was the one who actually got the crap scared out of him. He truly had gotten a night to remember.
“I had a good night.” He said with a smile still on his face. “I hope that I do the same next year.”
