Short story about a woman who is homeless and jobless but does not give up.
The woman with her daughter could not understand why Jean insisted on giving her dimes and quarters to ministries where ministers are known to own their own jet airplanes. The local TV minister who Jean gave to locally, owned just about all of the buildings in that area. Jean really believed in giving for someone parading as a certified nursing assistant. The woman with the little girl thought again that a change in careers and maybe religion would be in Jean’s best interest. Then maybe an offering to the church would bless her even more. Jean could eventually move out of her son’s apartment to her own place. Yes, Jean a change would be good. The woman and the little girl thanked Jean indirectly for the sermon without referring it as such, and walked into the now opened Chinese restaurant. Jean put the phone receiver back on the payphone and walked away. Hesitantly, and then with determination, Jean stopped by the newspaper and, inserted a quarter, pulled the lever and grabbed the employment paper the woman had mentioned. Jean can now claim a job. And just maybe join the jet owner and the building mason with all of that faith.
