Hostages, A Short Story.
“I’m going to go now,” Tom announced as he opened the door and walked out of Phil’s room. Phil was just sitting on his bed, silent, motionless, deep in confusing thought. He eventually went to sleep.
He woke up at 10 the next morning.
“Shit, I’m late for school!,” Phil panicked as he jumped out of bed and ran to the kitchen.
“Quick I need breakfast, I’m last for school,” Phil told him mum.
“You don’t have to go today,” his mum said. Phil was surprised, his mum never let him stay home from school.
“The school is closed for the week,” his mum explained. Phil went and rang Tom.
“Hey Tom, what’s up?”
“Not a lot, about to start enjoying my free week.”
“11 people.”
“Yep.”
“I wonder who did it.”
“Well they are all girls so there is a pattern.”
“Really? All girls?,” Phil said surprisingly.
“Yea. Didn’t you know that?”
“I never really thought about it.”
“and they all went out with Neil.” Neil is the coolest guy in school and he, apparently, hundreds of girlfriends.
“I don’t know, I doubt it,” explained Tim.”We should go to his house and see,” Phil suggested. Tom agreed and they decided they would go that night.
That night came slowly. They both met at the end of Moon Avenue, the street Neil lives on. They didn’t say a word; they just walked towards Neil’s place, Phil in front. They stopped at the house before Neil’s.
“This isn’t Neil’s place Phil,” Tom explained.
“I know, but were not going to walk through the front door,” Phil replied. They went around the side of the neighbours house and jumped the fence into Neil’s backyard. Neil’s family was rich and their backyard showed it. There was a swimming pool, fancy paving and a massive outdoor dining area. Their house was big, two stories and a basement. There were no lights on. Phil and Tom headed for the backdoor. Phil turned the door know slowly. It opened.
They walked through the hallway. There was a staircase on the left which went down to the basement. They stepped quietly down the creaking staircase. They got to the bottom and turned on a dim lamp. What they saw was unbelievable. A row of 11 girls tied up and gagged. Some looking like they hadn’t had food for weeks.
“So you found out what happened,” a voice from behind them said. Phil and Tom turned around and the big, blonde headed figure of Neil stood at the bottom of the staircase.
“Why have you done this?” Tom asked.
“All these girls have used me and made everyone think I was an idiot,” Neil explained.
“Where are your parents?” Phil asked.
“They’re on a holiday for the month overseas,” Neil replied. Police sirens could be heard from outside.
“Who got the police?” Neil asked angrily.
“I messaged my brother and told him to call the police,” Tom explained.
The police stormed into the basement and arrested Neil. Phil and Tom helped the police free the hostages. Neighbours had come to see what was happening. Neil got put in the back of a police car and was taken away.
