I only wish that this is how the book went.

In Alabama, its a fine summer and Jem and Dill, have spent much of their time hunting the elusive mockingbird, that they so cleverly named Boo. You see, Boo was always one step ahead of them, ducking behind doors, and hiding in the shadows.

But hunting in Alabama, during the height of mockingbird season was dangerous. There was always the threat of other hunters around, and a confrontation with another hunter could get ugly. Some of the other hunters liked to get drunk while hunting, which is not a safe thing to do, but they would also get very defensive about the territory they were hunting on.

One day, after seeing a baby mockingbird knocked out of the nest, Jem and Dill had an epiphany, realizing that Boo must also have a family, and friends, sweet lovers, and bitter enemies. So they hung up their guns for the season, and every once in a while, while playing, they would see quick glimpses of the beautiful bird, that seemed to be following them now.

One night, late in summer, Jem and Dill were walking home through the woods. All was dark, and quiet as they crossed the streambed, but suddenly, a hunter, drunk as a skunk by the looks of him, attacked the boys. Somewhere in the brawling, the drunk broke Jems arm nearly in two!

But from the sky comes… What?… A plane? No! Its Boo, the mockingbird, he attacks the drunken hunter. Pecks out his eyes! Biting at his throat and chest!

The hunter falls, and is dead!

After the investigation, the police officer decides to change the story, and releases the tale, that the hunter fell onto his knife in his drunken stupor. Thus Boo was protected.

–This is my version, and i believe it would have been much better this way.
