Fictional account on how snails got their shell.

Long time ago, some slugs long to have homes of their own. They observed the squirrels making nest in the trees and rabbits making home in the ground. They wanted a home that will keep them safe.
One day, they noticed some insects making their home under the rocks and thought that they could use the rocks as their home. Unfortunately, the rocks were just too heavy and their body was too slimy to carry the rocks around.
Later the slugs decided to carry leaves for shelter. However, there were just too many vegetarians around in the forest. Some of the slugs were accidentally eaten when the vegetarians eat the moving leaves on the ground.
The slugs decided to go into the caves where some of the animals have made their home in. They noticed the formation of stalactite and stalagmites. The calcium formation was just of the right hardness to protect them and keep them warm. Initially, they tried placing their bodies under the dripping water in the hope of the calcium deposit forming but it was just too painful. They then used some leaves forming into cones and allowed the calcium deposit to form a layer around it.
This works and it formed the shells which was light enough to carry, strong enough for protection and warm enough as a home.
So that is how the snails got their shells.
