This is a how-to article on the art of finger fishing. I came up with it because I couldn’t afford a pole but I had everything else I needed.
Many years ago, I didn’t have a fishing pole and I wanted to go fishing. I then came up with finger fishing. I lived in Lubbock, Texas at the time and wanted to fish in the lakes there. To successfully finger fish, follow these guidelines.
The first thing you must do is gather your equipment together. You need fish line, bobbler, hook, sinker, and bait. Gathering the equipment is the first important step.
The second thing you should do is tie the hook to the fish line. Once you have threaded the line through the hook, knot the line. I find that knotting the line several times helps keep the hook securely to the line. Then add the bobbler and sinker to the line. Now you are ready for the bait.
The usage of worms, corn, or liver is excellent bait to use. If you are using worms, you have to push the hook through the worm several times and make sure you cover the hook up. For the liver, you need to do the same thing as the worm. For corn, you can put several kernels on the hook until you have covered the hook up. Now you are ready for the last step.
Now you take the fish line and wrap it around your finger several times, that will give you a good hold on the line. If you don’t do this step, you could lose the line and the fish. After you have done this, you are now ready to fish.
Throw the line in the water and wait. I’ve enjoyed finger fishing better than with a pole because you can feel the fish tugging on the line better. One time I was finger fishing when a trout tugged on my line. I pulled the line in and a five-pound trout slapped up against my chest. That was the most enjoyable day I have ever had finger fishing.
