Well, first off, your video has to be original. Take a second to do a search for a similar video and see if its already there. For example if you want to post something like your dog doing tricks, there’s probably about 1000 of those videos floating around on youtube. So think of something original and do a search of it and make sure that yours is the only one, before you put all of that effort into your video. 

Next off it has to be something that people will actually WANT to watch. So think of something that would interest someone. Something like a popular song that nobody has posted or a nice car. You get the idea.

Now the most important one would have to be the video still you choose. You may have a really good video but at the middle where the still chooses automatically it might be blurry and low quality looking. So look and choose wisely because you can gain a lot of views with a good video still, and lose a lot of views with a bad one.

After all this, you’ll need to think of a catchy title for your video. If your starting a series name it part one, if your not name it something that people will like and check out. Then in your description, put interesting information and facts about your video.
